FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves carrying out the first cooling process of some part of a rail web at cooling of the cooling zone of some part of the web of the rail welding zone in the part of temperature range till conversion of austenite to pearlite is completed, the second cooling process of some part of the web at cooling of the cooling zone of some part of the web after conversion in the whole part of the web in the rail welding zone to pearlite, cooling of a bottom part at cooling of the bottom part in the rail welding zone and carrying out the cooling of the head part at cooling of the head part of the rail welding zone. While the cooling duration of the first and the second cooling processes of the web is equal to t minutes, value k, which is obtained by dividing width L of the cooling zone of some part of the web by width LAc1 of zone Ac1, meets the expression represented as -0.1t+0.63≤k≤-0.1t+2.33.
EFFECT: increasing fatigue strength of a rail weld joint.
