FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of producing 1,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-o-carborane, which is used to produce polymer derivatives which are used as components of special compositions with unique properties, superglues and high heat-resistance polymers. The method of producing 1,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-o-carborane is realised via alcoholysis of 1,2-bis(acetoxymethyl)-o-carborane with methyl alcohol. The 1,2-bis(acetoxymethyl)-o-carborane is produced from decaborane and butyne diacetate in toluene, wherein toluene solution containing 1,2-bis(acetoxymethyl)-o-carborane is dried over anhydrous sodium sulphate and purified by passing the toluene solution through a layer of dry silica gel. The silica gel is washed twice with pure toluene; the toluene solutions are mixed, the solvent is distilled off and the obtained 1,2-bis(acetoxymethyl)-o-carborane is used at the alcoholysis step without further purification.
EFFECT: efficient and ecologically clean method of producing 1,2-bis(hydroxymethyl)-o-carborane with high output and simplification of the process.
