FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method for addition polymerisation of norbornene (NB) by reacting nickel (II) complexes, particularly bis(acetylacetonato)nickel (II) (Ni(acac)2)), an organoaluminium compound, particularly triethyaluminium (AlEt3,), a proton-donor compound, boron trifluoride etherate (BF3·OEt2) and stabilising components. The method is characterised by that the process employs methanol as (MeOH) as a proton-donor compound, stabilising components in form of trivalent phosphorus compounds, specifically triphenylphosphine (PPh3), or tri-n-butylphosphine (P(n-Bu)3), or tri-p-tolylphosphine (P(p-Tol)3), or triisopropylphosphine (P(i-Pr)3); the process is carried out in the medium of an organic solvent, e.g. toluene, with the following molar ratio of components: NB:Ni:P:Al:MeOH:B=2000:1:(0…4):3:10:(50…200), at room temperature.
