FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: smelting furnace comprises, at least, one exciter of oscillations 40, 41, 42 and, at least, one sensor 50, 51, 52 arranged at furnace body 20. Signal registration and calculation unit 90 is connected with, at least, one exciter of oscillations and, at least, one sensor. Note here the exciter of oscillations represents exciter of acoustic waves located opposite said sensor so that fraction of sound waves propagates from exciter through melt in furnace body to sensor. Signal registration and calculation unit determines sound wave pulse propagation time and/or intensity of signal of sound wave pulses measured by sensor, or generation of function of transfer of sound waves between their excitation point and sensor. This allows control over melt position in smelting furnace, melt type or melt distribution in smelting furnace.
EFFECT: higher quality of smelting control.
