FIELD: metallurgy, steel scrap remelting. SUBSTANCE: proposed furnace includes lower melting vessel which bottom has outlet hole and upper melting vessel closed by cover. Central tube is installed coaxially to cylindrical upper vessel where at least one electrode is placed. Structural member linked to gas discharge unit embraces upper vessel of melting furnace. Longitudinal slot is made in wall of central tube. Bushing by means of which central tube is attached to body of upper vessel of furnace provided with proper slot is attached to edge of slot. Bearing cantilever on butt of which head one electrode as minimum is fixed is joined to bearing column located outside of furnace and is brought through space of bushing up to central tube. Process of operation of furnace includes following stages: intermediate holding of burden under closed cover of upper vessel of furnace, charging of burden into internal space of furnace: up to its lower vessel before starting of furnace, on to burden deposited earlier in ring-like manner in upper vessel of furnace, burning out of cavity in burden with the aid of long arc by electrodes protected by central tube, fed with alternating current, release f melt through outlet hole. Invention also describes design of metallurgical melting vessel and process of its usage. EFFECT: design of melting set ensuring continuous melting of metals, scrap in particular, and ore with least expenses by simple structural means which will not do any harm to environment. 23 cl, 6 dwg
