SUBSTANCE: sensor (1) for detecting at least one physical quantity from temperature of at least one section of crystallizer (35) of casting mold (34) of casting machine for liquid metal and position of meniscus or level (39) of liquid metal in a crystallizer is intended for installation in a casting mold, comprises a housing with a chamber, cover (8), ultrasonic (15, 18, 21, 24, 27, 30) and scattering elements. Sensor is located parallel to the direction of crystallizer walls (48, 49) length. Ultrasonic elements are arranged on the cover in the chamber orthogonal to the length of the sensor for orthogonal incidence of waves (40) and each of them is alternately wave transmitter (40) and a receiver of return waves from the crystallizer, consisting of echo signals of reflected waves (40) of the same ultrasonic element. Scattering elements are arranged across the cover according to each ultrasonic element to attenuate echo signals of non-orthogonal directions and are made of material, the surface of which has saw-like ridges and recesses.
