FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: rapid analysis is carried out using an optical system having a telescope, a video camera interfaced with said telescope and a computer. Images of a point object (for the given aperture) are processed; vibrations of the image relative its middle position caused by large turbulent irregularities of air density are measured at each moment in time. Further, said measurements are used to calculate the structural characteristic of the refraction index, the Fried radius and the optical transfer function of the atmosphere, and then based on the obtained data, the undistorted image is reconstructed and the Strehl parameter is calculated as the ratio of corresponding intensities in centres of the distorted and undistorted images of the point object.

EFFECT: invention enables to conduct rapid analysis of the state of a turbulent atmosphere in real time.
