FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: in order to describe an underground structure using measuring equipment which includes electromagnetic receivers and one or more electromagnetic sources, measured voltage data, collected by electromagnetic receivers in response to transmission by one or more electromagnetic sources, are received. Predicted electromagnetic data are calculated based on a model. Inversion is iteratively performed in accordance with a cost function which calculates the difference between measured voltage data and the product of a term, which contains the ratio of the predicted data for different electromagnetic sources and electromagnetic receivers, and a term which contains predicted electromagnetic data and distortion data that take into account at least distortions caused by the effect of an electroconductive facing structure. Distortion data contain the ratio of distortion data for different electromagnetic sources and electromagnetic receivers. Model parameters and distortion data are determined by iterative inversion.
EFFECT: high accuracy by eliminating the effect of the electroconductive facing structure.
