FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: method of obtaining dimethyl sulphone includes oxidation of dimethyl sulphoxide. In accordance with the invention oxidation is performed by addition of water solution of chlorine dioxide to dimethyl sulphoxide in presence of catalytic amounts of vanadyl acetylacetonate (VO(acac)2) or by barbotage of gas-air mixture of chlorine dioxide into dimethyl sulphoxide solution in acetic acid in presence of catalytic amounts of vanadyl acetylacetonate (VO(acac)2) with molar ratio dymethyl sulphoxide chlorine dioxide - VO(acac)2 equal 1:0.5:0.01 or 1:1:0.01 or 1:0.5:0.05 respectively at temperature 10-50°C.
EFFECT: obtaining dimethyl sulphone ((CH3)2SO2), which can be used in organic synthesis, pharmaceutical industry, in production of dyes, medications as anti-inflammatory medication for treatment of joint diseases, assists in supporting required level of sulphur in organism and does not cause side effects.
