FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing novel terpene α-chloroketones or chlorohydroxyketones, which are widely used as intermediates to produce heterocyclic compounds, Darzens condensation epoxides, α-alkyl(aryl)-thiocarbonyl compounds, β-ketoesters. The method includes passing an initial compound through a solution in a solvent, without or in the presence of catalysts, a current of chlorine dioxide gas during a certain period of time, removing the solvent, extraction with diethyl or methyl-tert-butyl ether, washing and drying the reaction mixture over anhydrous MgSO4, extracting the end product by chromatography on SiO2 or crystallisation. The initial compound used is isopinocampheol, or neoisoverbanol, or 3β,4β-caranediol.
