FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method of producing 7-ethyl-1,3,5-trihydroxyadamantane, which is widely used as a component of bases of oils for heat-stressed gas turbine engines of modern aviation. Method involves oxidation of 1-ethyladamantane with molecular oxygen in the presence of N-hydroxyphthalimide in molar ratio of 1:0.1 mol in terms of initial substrate, cobalt (II) acetylacetonate in molar ratio of 1:0.01 mol in terms of the initial substrate by heating the reaction mixture in an ice acetic acid at temperature of 60–100 °C for 40 hours with further addition to reaction mixture of N-hydroxyphthalimide in molar ratio of 1:0 or 1:0.1 mol in terms of initial substrate, cobalt (II) acetylacetonate in molar ratio of 1:0 or 1:0.01 mol in terms of initial substrate and manganese dioxide in molar ratio of 1:0 or 1:0.05 mol in terms of initial substrate and heating mixture for 10–35 more hours.
EFFECT: disclosed method enables to obtain an end product with high output using available raw material.
