SUBSTANCE: method is realised by synchronising a visual segment in a visual file with the beginning of corresponding applications in an audio file in accordance with visual segments, such that if a user switches from a visual mode to an audio mode, the audio mode is not turned on from the middle of the application. The electronic book has a housing; a display; an audio output device; a digital processor; a machine readable tangible data medium, wherein electronic book files are stored on the medium, and the processor receives a user selection to simultaneously play an audio file and a visual file, wherein one of them forms a first file and the other forms a second file; supporting management of a tab of the first file in first files such that if the user jumps ahead in the second file, the first file stores the tab in the same point of the first file which was played when a "jump" signal was obtained in the second file in which a page in the visual file, corresponding to the last spoken word in the audio file, is a page containing the last spoken word or is a page on n pages before the page in the video file containing the last spoken word, where n is an integer.
EFFECT: improved properties of the electronic book by enabling management of the tab of the audio file and visual file.
