SUBSTANCE: method of improving audibility of reference signals in a wireless network involves determining a positioning subframe configured for transmitting positioning reference signals (PRS), wherein access points in said wireless network suppress or reduce transmission of user plane data in said positioning subframe; selecting one or more resource elements in the positioning subframe for transmitting a PRS while avoiding resource elements in the positioning subframe configured for transmitting cell-specific reference signals (CRS); and transmitting a PRS in the one or more resource elements.

EFFECT: improved radio audibility of reference signals.
