FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: metal billet is made, which contains at least one longitudinal slot (11, 12) which protrudes to the billet edge. The slot is inserted into fibrous stiffening element (2). The latter is connected to the billet due to metal spreading around fibres of fibrous stiffening element (2). Final machining of the billet if performed to obtain a rod. First, fibrous stiffening element (2) is arranged on a support in the form of angle (3). Angle (3) with the corresponding fibrous stiffening element (2) is inserted into slot (11, 12). Besides, a rod is proposed, which is made by means of the above method and contains a metal matrix, into which reinforcing fibres passing on both sides of longitudinal axis (X) of the rod are submerged; at that, fibres protrude to the rod edge.
EFFECT: development of a simpler manufacturing method of a composite rod.
