SUBSTANCE: sampling area selection is carried out, the selection of a tree on the sampling area, the description of properties of the selected tree and place of its growth. The location of the root collar is determined, the diameter of the trunk from the root collar at the standard height of 1.3 m is measured. At that, the selection is carried out on all types and sizes of woody plants, the measurement of the trunk diameter of every woody plant is carried out without its destruction. The woody plant butt is taken as a trunk section from the root collar to the calculated height, taking into account the confidence interval, the boundaries of which are calculated by the formulas: $${\text{h}}_{\text{D}}^{\text{min}}=\text{1}\text{,3(1}-\text{exp(}-\text{0}{\text{,064732D}}^{\text{1}\text{,12520}}\text{))}\text{,}$$ $${\text{h}}_{\text{D}}^{\text{max}}=\text{1}\text{,4(1}-\text{exp(}-\text{0}{\text{,35284D}}^{\text{0}\text{,72414}}\text{))}\text{,}$$ where D is the diameter of the trunk of the woody plant on the measured height, cm; $${\text{h}}_{\text{D}}^{\text{min}}$$ is the lower limit of the minimum values of the height measured from the root collar, m; $${\text{h}}_{\text{D}}^{\text{max}}$$ is the upper limit of the minimum values of the height measured from the root collar, m.

EFFECT: improving the accuracy of the analysis of the trunk in the butt part in all types and sizes of woody plants growing on the sampling area.
