SUBSTANCE: liquid crystal display device has a plurality of column-type braces provided on one of a pair of substrates and configured to maintain a constant spacing between the pair of substrates. Each of the column-type braces has in the top end, which is in contact with the other substrate, a height adjustment portion which easily deforms compared to another portion of the column-type brace when the pair of substrates is joined; a step is formed on the base surface of one of the pair of substrates. The deformation value of the height adjustment portion of the column-type brace provided in a region on the higher side of the step is greater than the deformation value of the height adjustment portion of the column-type brace provided in a region on the lower side of the step.
EFFECT: maintaining constant spacing between a pair of substrates using a simple configuration to non-uniform display.
