FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing linear alkanes of general formula Alk-CH2-CH3, where Alk=C6H13, C8H17. The method involves hydrogenating an olefin with hydrogen at atmospheric pressure of hydrogen on a catalyst, and is characterised by that the olefin used is octene-1 or decene-1, and the catalyst used is nickel nanoparticles obtained in situ by reducing nickel (II) chloride with sodium borohydride in a medium of isopropanol and the process is carried out at temperature of 60-70°C for 6-8 hours, followed by separation of end products.
EFFECT: simpler method of producing compounds of the disclosed structural formula.
