FIELD: information technologies.

SUBSTANCE: default properties are set for transfer of a video stream; video stream transfer is initiated on the basis of default properties; data is collected on network characteristics in process of video stream transfer; the value of predicted distortions is calculated in the video stream using data on network characteristics, besides, predicted distortions correspond to quantity of frames in the group of images, which are influenced by loss of packages, at the same time the predicted distortions are calculated on the basis of the following: quantity of B-frames in the group of images, quantity of frames in the group of images, quantity of P-frames between at least one of the following: serial 1-I, I-SP, SP-SP and SP-I frames, quantity of SP-frames in the group of images, probability of loss of the B-frame, probability of loss of the I-frame, probability of loss of the P-frame and probability of loss of the SP-frame, besides, the value of predicted distortions is only calculated when recovery after errors is not performed; video stream default properties are modified, in order to minimise predicted distortions.

EFFECT: improved quality of a video stream, which is sent between network computers with account of network characteristics.
