FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: first, second, third and fourth images of a mobile object are recorded at different moments in time. Two difference images of the mobile object are obtained and the centres of the difference images of the mobile object are determined. Vertical and horizontal viewing angles of the centres of the difference images of the mobile object are determined. Information on speed and course angle is read from a control system of the mobile object at moments for recording the images. Inclined ranges and coordinates of the mobile object are determined based on the obtained data in the coordinate system of the observation system. The observation system can be mounted on another mobile object.

EFFECT: high accuracy of detection, determining range to a mobile object and current coordinates thereof.
