FIELD: radio engineering, communication.

SUBSTANCE: space behind the barrier is scanned once with probing pulses of a broadband radar by placing the transmitter antenna and the receiver antenna directly on the outer surface of the barrier; detecting signals at the output of the radar; performing Fourier transform of the obtained signal into an amplitude-frequency spectrum and analysing the spectrum via comparison thereof with a reference spectrum which corresponds to a barrier known to be permeable for the radar; the barrier is considered to be permeable for a specific radar if there is a high-frequency spectral part on the curve corresponding to the barrier under analysis.

EFFECT: wider range of operation by enabling assessment of barriers with high radiation absorption, eg a wet wall.
