FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: method involves lowering graphite irradiation temperature by reducing axial nonuniformity of thermal resistance of the air gap of the process channel of the channel-type graphite nuclear reactor by filling said gap with helium with gas impurity content of not more than 2%.
EFFECT: prolonging the service life of the graphite stack and process channel of the fuel cell and the reactor as a whole, reducing hazardous radioactive effect on the environment, reducing transportation and process operations with radioactive substances and reactor down time, reducing radiation exposure of personnel, high reactor safety, load factor and electric power generation.
