FIELD: radiation material science. SUBSTANCE: in order to reduce rate of accumulation of radiation faults in crystal lattice of reactor graphite which affects graphite quality and to improve radiation vulnerability of polycrystalline graphite operating in reactor radiation field to damage without shutting down operating reactor while holding its radiation temperature at desired value within desired fast-neutron flux, we propose to respectively decrease or increase gamma-ray flux density at fixed radiation temperature of 300-700 C and fixed fast- neutron flux.
