FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method involves generating circulation of a multiphase fluid medium (12) through the mouth (26) of a Venturi tube (20) which is bounded by a pipe (14), and estimating a first flow rate and a second flow rate using a measured pressure difference and a value characterising relative area occupied by the measured gaseous phase. The estimation step involves calculating the amount of the liquid phase present in the predominantly gaseous central part (18), depending on at least the flow of the multiphase fluid medium and a first set of parameters which depend on the shape of the Venturi tube (20). The step involves calculating a first flow rate and a second flow rate depending on the amount of the liquid phase present in the predominantly gaseous central part.

EFFECT: high accuracy of determining flow rate, particularly when a gaseous phase in a fluid medium is present in a much larger proportion.
