FIELD: radio engineering, communication.
SUBSTANCE: multimode fibre-optic line is probed with short optical pulses from a single-mode source and the pulse response is measured at the output. Uniform mode excitation conditions are ensured at the input. Pulse response measurement results from the output are used to calculate an equivalent refraction index profile of the multimode optical fibre, from which a set of pulse responses at the output of the multimode fibre-optic line is calculated for a set of combinations of optical radiation input and output conditions. The obtained set is used to construct a differential modal delay diagram and the multimode fibre-optic line capacity is estimated.
EFFECT: reduced time and amount of measurements and wider measurement range.
