FIELD: physics.
SUBSTANCE: invention can be used in long-term preservation of surface storages with both liquid and solid radioactive wastes. Disclosed are three versions of the formulation of a preservative depending on hydrogeological conditions of the location of the storage (above or below the level of the first water-bearing layer) and the type of radioactive wastes (liquid or solid). To preserver storages with liquid radioactive wastes, the main component of the preservative is a liquid phase of wastes of a specific storage, including a residue, which is mixed to a homogeneous state, into which, depending on the specific hydrogeological conditions, bentonite clay powder is either fed directly under pressure or with preliminary addition of a gel-forming solution chosen specifically for the specific storage. To preserve a storage with solid radioactive wastes, the liquid component used in the preservative is natural water which is mixed with a gel-forming solution and bentonite clay powder.
EFFECT: invention enables to prevent migration of radionuclides outside the storage.
