FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: present invention relates to a method for continuous production of a polymerisate by radical polymerisation. Described is a method for continuous production of a polymerisate by radical polymerisation in a solution, which includes the following steps: (a) preparing at least two liquid streams, each stream including one or more of the following components: a monomer which is suitable for radical polymerisation, which is a monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or sulphonic acid or a mixture of monomers which contains at least one monoethylenically unsaturated carboxylic acid or sulphonic acid, a regulator selected from solvents with a regulating action, and regulators different therefrom, and an initiator, under the condition that the stream containing an initiator does not contain a regulator; (b) mixing the at least two liquid streams to obtain a reaction mixture, wherein mixing is carried out in one or more steps and at least 10°C below the reaction temperature of subsequent polymerisation and wherein at least the last mixer in the direction of flow before entry into the reaction zone(s) is a micromixer; (c) radical polymerisation of the reaction mixture obtained at step (b), carried out in at least one microstructured reaction zone with a characteristic dimension ranging from 0.1 mm to 8 mm. Also described is an apparatus for continuous production of polymers for carrying out said method. Also described is use of the polymerisate obtained using said method or in said apparatus as a pigment dispersant.
EFFECT: energy-efficient method for continuous production of a polymerisate, in which there is no danger of clogging the micromixer and/or reactor, while obtaining a polymerisate with a narrow molecular weight distribution.
