FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to catalysis. Described is a method of preparing a catalyst for producing benzene from methane via conversion thereof, which involves depositing molybdenum on a support which is zeolite HZSM-5, through saturation thereof with an aqueous solution of a molybdenum salt, followed by calcination on air at temperature of 500-600°C, wherein the zeolite HZSM-5 undergoes preliminary dealumination via thermal-steam treatment thereof in an air current with partial pressure of steam of 10-100 kPa at temperature of 450-550°C. Described is a method of producing benzene from methane in the presence of a catalyst produced using said method.
EFFECT: high catalyst activity.
