FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: ground concentrate is mixed with calcium carbonate or oxide and calcium chloride. The mixture is mechanically activated for 10-30 minutes with energy supply intensity of not less than 5 kJ/s per kg of the mixture to achieve specific surface area of baddeleyite particles of 8-12 m2/g. The mixture is then calcined at temperature of 900-950°C for 3.0-3.5 hours to form sinter which contains calcium zirconate. The sinter is treated with 10-20% sulphuric acid with solid to liquid ratio of 1:3-4 and temperature of 70-95°C to obtain a suspension which contains zironium oxochloride and calcium oxide in a liquid phase and an insoluble baddeleyite residue which is separated from the liquid phase.
EFFECT: lowering calcination temperature while ensuring high degree of extraction of zirconium from the concentrate to the liquid phase.
