FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: device (12) to detect a fault along a communication cable (10), which connects a coding unit (3) and a beacon (5) of ground equipment of a monitoring plant of a railway vehicle, comprises: facilities (14, 16, 34, 42) to measure full resistance made as capable of measurement at a preset frequency (F6) of a phase and a module of total resistance of the cable (10) during transmission of an electric communication signal, generated by the coding unit, in direction of the beacon; and facilities of cable condition determination, made with the possibility to compare measured phase and module with control values of the phase and module of total resistance of the cable so that one of the following cable conditions are determined: condition of normal operation, condition of short circuit and condition of circuit break.

EFFECT: possibility to detect a fault practically at the moment of its occurrence, specification of its location and clarification of fault nature.
