SUBSTANCE: device comprises means (51a-52b) for detection of electrical signals (S1a, S1b) and additional signals (S2a, S2b) generated in the electrical power network (3). Additional signals (S2a, S2b) have a physical nature, different to electrical signals (S1a, S1b). The device also includes means (7) for processing of mentioned electrical signals for determining of a first time reference (t1) representing the moment of detection of electrical signals emitted when a malfunction event (E1, E2) occurred in electrical power network, means (7) for processing of mentioned additional signals (S2) for determining of a second time reference (t2) representing the moment of detection of additional signals emitted when mentioned malfunction event occurred in the electrical power network, and processing means for determining the spatial localization of mentioned malfunction event in the electrical power network, depending on the first and second time points (t1, t2).

EFFECT: ability to simply, quickly and reliably detect and localize damage in any type of electrical power network without introducing signals to mentioned network.
