FIELD: machine building.

SUBSTANCE: device (18) and method to support a cylindrical element (12) are proposed. The device (18) comprises a base (28), having an upper surface (40) of a hemispherical concave shape, and a carriage (30), resting against the upper surface (40) of the base (28). The carriage (30) has a lower surface (50) and an oppositely arranged upper surface with contact elements for contact with a cylindrical element (12) and its support with the possibility of rotation. The lower surface (50) of the carriage (30) interacts with the upper surface (40) of the base (28) and has a hemispherical convex shape, complementary to the hemispherical concave shape of the upper surface (40) of the base (28). The device (18) additionally comprises a reservoir (46) for lubrication, arranged in the base (28) and deepened on its upper surface (40), and facilities for delivery of lubricant into the reservoir (46). The lower surface (50) of the carriage (30) and the upper surface (40) of the base (28) limit the shell around the reservoir (46). Pressure of lubricant between the carriage (30) and the base (28) provide for hydraulic disconnection of the lower surface (50) of the carriage (30) from the upper surface (40) of the base (28) with provision of the possibility of self-alignment of the carriage (30) with the cylindrical element (12).

EFFECT: invention makes it possible to use multiple elements as means of contact with a cylindrical element.
