FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of purifying para-dioxanone by treating a mixture containing para-dioxanone and/or poly(para-dioxanone) and/or oxyethoxyacetic acid with an alkali solution based on the acid number. The obtained beta-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid salt is extracted via crystallisation in 1-4 steps and treated with an aqueous solution of an inorganic acid, washed with acetone and dried. The formed beta-hydroxyethoxyacetic acid is extracted with acetone and distilled in a vacuum to form para-dioxanone. Para-dioxanone is a valuable monomer for synthesis of biodegradable polymers.

EFFECT: method enables to purify para-dioxanone synthesised with any method and enables to obtain para-dioxanone with purity of 99,99% and output of 75-84%.
