SUBSTANCE: invention relates to subsurface radar location of objects. The method involves probing the medium with extremely low frequency harmonic electromagnetic oscillations. The antenna is periodically switched from the generator to the receiver such that when the generator is connected, the receiver is disconnected and when the generator is disconnected, the antenna is connected to the receiver. The generator frequency is equal to units, tens, hundreds or thousands of Hz. The switching frequency is at least ten times greater than the generator frequency and is a multiple thereof. Periodic connection and disconnection of the generator and the receiver result in radiation of discontinuous oscillations and reception of oscillations reflected from the probed object at moments when there is no radiation. The received signal is filtered at the generator frequency and its harmonic part is restored, and then phase-compared with the original generator signal. The phase difference contains information on distance to the object.

EFFECT: providing probing depth of hundreds and thousands of metres, enabling use of one antenna to radiate and receive probing signals.
