SUBSTANCE: invention relates to wireless communication. Described is a method of transmitting a data stream by a transmitting device in a multiple input multiple output (MIMO) wireless communication system, wherein the transmitting device has a group of transmitting antennae, wherein the method includes: applying discrete Fourier transform (DFT) to the data stream to form a plurality of sequences of symbols; pairing symbols of a first sequence of symbols from said plurality of sequences of symbols with symbols of a second sequence of symbols from said plurality of sequences to form a plurality of pairs of symbols, wherein the paring procedure results in an excess (unpaired) symbol; applying space-time block coding (STBC) to the pairs of symbols to form groups of STBC symbols, each associated with a corresponding antenna of the group of antennae; applying a cyclic delay diversity (CDD) operation to the unpaired symbol to form a plurality of CDD symbols, each associated with a corresponding antenna of the group of antennae; and transmitting, through each antenna, a corresponding group of STBC symbols and a corresponding CDD symbol.
EFFECT: improved uplink diversity transmission schemes and improved channel estimation schemes.
