FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to the field of organic synthesis, namely to a method of obtaining 1,1,2,2-tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-1,2-dinitroethane, which can be applied in the synthesis of medications and explosive materials. In accordance with the claimed method 1,1,2,2-tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-1,2-dinitroethane is obtained by hydrolysis of acetone-2,2'-bis-(2-nitro-1,3-propanediol)diacetal, with diacetal hydrolysis being carried out with diluted hydrochloric acid in an alcohol medium (preferably methanol) with boiling.
EFFECT: method makes it possible to increase the output of 1,1,2,2-tetrakis-(hydroxymethyl)-1,2-dinitroethane and reduce the process time.
