SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a developing apparatus used in an electrophotographic image forming apparatus and a socket element used in the electrophotographic image forming apparatus. The developing apparatus used with an electrophotographic image forming apparatus and movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axial direction of the drive shaft comprises a socket element for transmitting a turning force to a development roller, capable of occupying an angular position for transmitting a turning force, an angular position before engagement, which is occupied before the socket element engages with a part for applying a turning force and in which the socket element is displaced from the angular position for transmitting a turning force, and an angular position for disengagement which is occupied so that the socket element disengages with the drive shaft and in which the socket element is displaced from the angular position for transmitting a turning force in a direction opposite the angular position before engagement; in response to movement of the developing apparatus, the socket element moves from the angular position before engagement to the angular position for transmitting a turning force in order to be positioned opposite the drive shaft, and when the movable element further moves in the same direction, the socket element disengages with the drive shaft by moving from the angular position for transmitting a turning force to the angular position for disengagement.
EFFECT: providing a mechanism for moving a socket from the side of the developing apparatus to ensure uniformity of rotation of the development roller.
