FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: developing device used in an electrophotographic image forming device and movable in a direction substantially perpendicular to the axial direction of the drive shaft, having a socket element for transferring a rotary force to a developing roller, capable of occupying an angular rotary force transfer position for transferring a rotary force, an angular pre-engagement position, which is occupied before the socket element engages with a rotary force application part, wherein the socket element deviates from the angular rotary force transfer position and an angular disengagement position, which is occupied so that the socket element disengages with the drive shaft, and wherein the element i of the socket deviates from the angular rotary force transfer position in a direction opposite to the angular pre-engagement position. In response to movement of the developing device, the socket element moves from the angular pre-engagement position into the angular rotary force transfer position in order to be positioned opposite the drive shaft. When the movable element moves further in the same direction, the socket element disengages with the drive shaft by moving from the angular rotary force transfer position to the angular disengagement position.
