SUBSTANCE: selecting therapeutic options for anterior occlusion is ensured by a qualitative assessment of a degree of severity. A point system is used. The qualitative assessment aims at detecting a patient's dento-facial abnormalities specific for the anterior occlusion. The norm is appraised as 0 points; 1 point shows a correction by orthodontic treatment required; if a correction by a combination of orthodontic and surgical treatment is required, 2 points are assigned; the presence of a dento-facial asymmetry is appraised as 3 points. The qualitative assessment is based on medical history, facial signs of the anterior occlusion, dental occlusion, analysing panoramic X-ray and teleroentgenogram. If the total score makes no more than 20, the orthodontic treatment is preferred. The total score of 20 point and more requires a combination of the orthodontic and surgical treatment to be prescribed.

EFFECT: more reliable results of the qualitative assessment of a degree of severity of the anterior occlusion, higher probability of an adequate selection of the therapeutic options for the anterior occlusion.
