FIELD: packaging industry.

SUBSTANCE: device comprises a tool for thermal sealing, two transport mechanisms located in the lateral direction at a distance from each other for moving the trays to the tool and from it along the respective paths feeding the trays, located in the lateral direction at a distance from each other, the device for feeding film to the tool, aligned with each path. At that the tool comprises two lower support elements each of which is aligned with a respective path and on each of which the trays can be moved, the upper plate with heaters aligned during operation to each tray on the support elements, and means for selective moving the support elements to the plate to bring the trays into contact with the film for subsequent gluing. The method of sealing the trays is carried out using the device described above. In the method the tray is transferred to the tool for thermal sealing and from it along the respective located in the lateral direction at a distance of paths of feeding trays. At that the thermally sealable films are fed to the tool, aligned with each path, and the support elements are selectively moved to the upper plate to bring the trays in contact with the film for subsequent gluing.

EFFECT: simplification of device and reduction of cost while using the trays of various sizes.
