SUBSTANCE: invention relates to creating and editing visual representations. The invention discloses a method and a system for graphical representation based on user settings in an application computer program for working with graphics. The settings relate to various properties of one or more graphic elements. Such properties include positioning, size, format and other visual attributes associated with graphic elements. These properties can be defined either as semantic properties or as representation properties. Semantic properties are persistent for all graphic definitions. Representation properties are specific for the graphic definition to which each specific graphics belongs. Thus, the semantic property setting of the displayed graphics is stored in memory for application not only for the currently displayed graphics, but also to all other graphic definitions which can be displayed in future. Conversely, the representation property setting is stored only for the graphics currently displayed, and therefore is not stored for all other graphic definitions.

EFFECT: high efficiency of displaying graphics.
