FIELD: measurement equipment.

SUBSTANCE: in the proposed invention they determine dispersion properties of the medium by results of measurement of frequency dependence of signal delay time τd. To measure ice thickness with unavailable parameters, they determine group speed of electromagnetic wave in ice thickness, for this purpose they simultaneously probe ice by a short-pulse signal by means of a broadband antenna and the second narrowband antenna, the central frequency of which is below the lower frequency of the working range of the broadband antenna, they receive reflected signals by means of a multi-channel multi-frequency selective receiver of reflected signals in the form of an array of measurements, in every channel of which they determine time delay Δτdul between the time τu of reception of reflected signal from the upper edge of ice and time τl of reception of the reflected signal. By frequency dispersion characteristic of time delay they determine group speed of electromagnetic wave in ice thickness Vgr, electrical conductivity of ice σ, relative dielectric permeability of ice ε, by results of measurements of group speed of electromagnetic wave they determine ice thickness.

EFFECT: improved accuracy of ice thickness measurement.
