FIELD: physics.

SUBSTANCE: method includes performing modulation with amplitude of 0, ±π rad and generating initial phase shift between beams of a fibre ring interferometer (FRI), which is equal to ±π/2 rad, using stepped triangular sawtooth voltage. When changing the Sagnac phase difference by changing the frequency of the stepped sawtooth voltage and changing polarity of connection of electrodes of the phase modulator of the FRI, the phase difference of the beams thereof assumes the following discrete series of values: Φsstv=±2(n+1)/2×π rad, where n=0, 1, 2, …, Φs is the Sagnac phase difference, and Ψstv is the phase difference of the FRI beams by applying a stepped triangular sawtooth voltage across the phase modulator.

EFFECT: wider measurement range of angular velocities of a closed feedback loop fibre-optic gyroscope.
