FIELD: physics, optics.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical location of objects and measurement of changes in polarisation parameters of optical radiation when transmitted through an optically active substance. The method includes dividing monochromatic linearly polarised radiation into two different streams, one of which is transmitted in the forward and reverse direction through a measuring cell with and without an optically active substance, homodyne detection of the two streams and determining deviation of the inclination angle of the polarisation plane by the optically active substance relative to the amplitude of alternating components of photon-induced current without and with the optically active substance in the measuring cell.
EFFECT: invention enables to determine the effect of the optically active substance on polarisation characteristics a signal reflected from an object.
