FIELD: instrument engineering.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to optical instrument making. Polarimeter for measuring the Verdet constant contains: source of monochromatic, collimated beam of light, first linear polarizer in the form of a Wollaston prism, photodetectors, amplifiers, electronic unit with a calculator for determining the ration of the difference in the signals of the photodetectors, indicator of the measurement results, cuvette with the substance under study, installed in the center of a set of annular permanent magnets with a coaxial direction of the magnetic field strength vector. Mirror is installed after the cuvette, and its reflecting surface is perpendicular to the cell axis and the beams incident on the mirror are inclined in the vertical plane at an angle of at least ε = 0.5∙arctg (D/l) where: D is the diameter of the light beams; l is the distance from the Wollaston prism to the mirror. Second simple linear polarizer is installed directly in front of the photodetectors, which is simultaneously found both in the beam of light incident on the Wollaston prism, and in the beams of light reflected from the mirror and passing through the cell again through the cuvette.

EFFECT: technical result consists in the increase in optical activity and in reduction of energy consumption.
