FIELD: process engineering.
SUBSTANCE: set of inventions relates to rock drilling. Proposed device comprises adapter to be fitted at PDC-cutter. The latter comprises diamond insert layer and underlying substrate ply. Note here that adapter has first part arranged to overlap the diamond insert face surface with direct contact therewith. Second part extends perpendicular from said first part to overlap and to be connected to outer boundary surface of underlying ply of substrate. Proposed process includes the steps that follow. Crown bit with PDC-cutters is used. Some of said cutters include mill adapter jointed to PDC-cutter, apart from its diamond insert surface. Said adapter is used for downward milling to continue soil drilling by the same crown bit thereafter. Note here that soil drilling causes collapse of at least a part of milling adapter not connected to diamond insert surface.
EFFECT: protection of cutting surfaces, accelerated milling.
