FIELD: metallurgy.
SUBSTANCE: method involves melting of continuously supplied alumina in the melt of liquid electrocorundum at plasm-arc heating in a reactor under vacuum, deposition of primary aluminium and its refining follow. The alumina is loaded into the reactor by a dosing unit into the plasm arc zone and is molten under the temperature of 1300-1500°C with the vacuumising degree of 1.1-1.3·10-4 Pa. The electrocorundum melt is poured into the electric settling chamber through a separating partition membrane where aluminium being a liquid cathode is formed on the melt surface under the action of direct current of 150-200 A. After specified level of 10-15 cm is reached the metal is directed to the chamber for refining via an outlet hole in the vacuum furnace, and the required level of metal is constantly maintained in the chamber.
EFFECT: simplified aluminium production method and reduced material and power costs of the production along with high technical and economical indices of the process and its environment protection.
