FIELD: instrumentation.

SUBSTANCE: used to control an ultrasonic sensor by characteristic of sensor impedance. The substance of the invention consists in the fact that a sensor device comprises a sensor, first of all, an ultrasonic sensor, having facilities for generation and detection of acoustic waves, besides, detection facilities convert the received acoustic waves into electric signals analysed by means of a signal processing unit, at the same time it comprises a device of functional control, made as capable of detection of sensor impedance characteristic depending on excitation frequency, besides, the device of functional control is made so that during measurement of impedance, oscillations are excited with amplitude that is lower compared to the result of regular measurement, or so that to perform measurements of impedance in intervals between periods of sensor operation in regular mode of measurements.

EFFECT: provision of possibility to minimise noise during regular functioning of a sensor device, and also provision of early detection of sensor fault.
