FIELD: machine building.
SUBSTANCE: operability of roller chains in a gear is defined by the results of checking the position of hinges of the chains which are maximally protruding over the teeth points of maximal gear sprockets without the chains being demounted from machines. Gauges with control recesses are used for checking, the recesses' depth is determined as per the formula a=0.378·t, and the width - as per the formula b=0.87·t, where t stands for the pitch of the chain being checked.
EFFECT: lower labour inputs in the roller chain operability checks.
