FIELD: physics, navigation.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to radar and particularly to tracking a target path in surveillance radar stations. A detected target is associated with one of two types based on calculated radial velocity: low-velocity and high-velocity, wherein for a low-velocity target, confirmation of path detection is carried out in gates combined with regular surveillance, said gates being scanned with a period which is a multiple of the regular surveillance period; for a high-velocity target, confirmation of path detection is carried out in physical gates scanned with minimum technically possible period, wherein a target moving with the calculated radial velocity moves by a distance greater than the error in extrapolating the position of the target on the range.

EFFECT: faster target path detection and higher reliability of output radar information.
