FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of obtaining 3,4-dichloro-5-cyanoisothiazole, represented by general formula (3), which includes a reaction of a nitrile compound, represented by general formula (1), (where "n" stands for an integer number from 0 to 2), with sulphur chloride, represented by general formula (2): SmCl2 (2), (where "m" stands for an integer number from 0 to 2), or their mixture in an aprotic polar solvent. The aprotic polar solvent represents the aprotic polar solvent of an amide nature or a carbonate-ester nature. The nitrile compound of formula (1) in formed in a reaction of succinonitrile chlorination.

EFFECT: method of obtaining 3,4-dichloro-5-cyanoisothiazole, capable of ensuring the suppression of side formation of wastes without the application of highly toxic initial compounds; and at the same time capable of providing obtaining the product possessing a high degree of purity, with a high output and efficiency in industrial scale by a method, which is simple in realisation.
